Nicet's Health Story

Nicet joined Grameen America five years ago to expand her business selling pupusas, a corn pancake stuffed with various fillings. Nicet describes how she’s grown as an entrepreneur and built her credit, all while improving her and her family’s health.

This is Nicet's story in her own words.

“I enjoy that I’m my own authority. It gives me a lot of autonomy to sell pupusas on my time. It’s great to have that kind of decision-making power. I’m really grateful to Grameen for helping me establish my credit because I didn’t realize how important it was until joining.

Between Grameen America and the Promotoras program, I’ve seen a huge improvement to my overall health, both financially and physically. It’s really helpful to have all my needs met, practically, in one place.

The Promotoras empower us in a whole different way.

I call my Promotora my best health friend! She has so much knowledge to share and is always available either in our meetings or over the phone. If I need to make appointments, she’s been really helpful.

I have my husband and two daughters ages six and twelve. It’s a privilege to have them be able to take advantage of the services Grameen provides as well. I get to take what I’ve learned and bring it home to them. What I’ve learned about nutrition is a great example because I can sit in on a workshop and then go home and cook a healthy meal for my whole family. I truly feel that our whole family is in better health because of the program.”

“We, as women, are incredibly capable. As long as you have a strong support system, like what Grameen is to us, we are capable of succeeding and achieving more. The whole program encourages us to be our best selves.”
