Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Jennifer Lopez at 'Raising Latina Voices' Event
On September 17, we were proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Grameen America’s National Ambassador Jennifer Lopez and nearly 300 Latina entrepreneurs with businesses supported by Grameen America in the Los Angeles community.
Raising Latina Voices celebrated and recognized the many accomplishments of the Latina community, and especially the ingenuity and resilience of small businesses led by Latina women in underserved communities across the country.
With support from presenting sponsor Bank of the West, the event also offered several engagement opportunities for Grameen America members, including a fireside chat with Jennifer Lopez and President & CEO of Grameen America Andrea Jung, moderated by NBC News Correspondent Morgan Radford. The event also included engaging educational sessions on health and self-care presented by Grameen Primacare, as well as sessions on branding and social media.

Despite gaps in opportunity, Latina entrepreneurs represent the fastest-growing, yet untapped, segment of U.S. small business owners.
Latino entrepreneurs are creating businesses at a rate 6x faster than other racial and ethnic groups. But in spite of that, Latinos are 60% less likely than their white peers to get their loans approved by national banks. For women, financial exclusion is disproportionately higher as only 4% of all small business loans from mainstream financial institutions go to women.
