Who We Are

Launched in September 2016, our community health program, Grameen Promotoras, aims to improve the health and well-being of underserved women by using a community health worker approach in a non-clinical setting. Our community health worker program currently operates in the following Grameen America locations: New York (Bronx, Jackson Heights, Jamaica/LIC, Woodside, Upper Manhattan/Inwood ) Charlotte, N.C., Connecticut, and Los Angeles (Pico Union) with further expansion to the greater LA area coming in mid-2024.

The Need

Hard-working women in underserved communities confront significant challenges in their ability to access healthcare and resources. Healthcare is a human right, and contending with health disparities is of critical importance in moving toward living in a just society. The need for health education and services is critical as low-income women of color and immigrant communities are disproportionately impacted by chronic health conditions, like asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
